Bust of a goddess also known as "Psyche of Capua". Original Greek sculpture of the first century B.C. was founded in 1726 in the amphitheater of Capua in Italy. The sculpture was incorrectly named and more likely represents Aphrodite.
The head of the sculpture turned to the right and bent down. Bargue chose for his drawing a strong source of light. This makes the transitions between shadow and light very sharp. Most of the face is into the shadow which requires subtle work in the grays.
Plate lithographed on gray-blue tinted fine art paper, 350 g, ideal for charcoal or graphite copying.
